Marshall University - A First Glance

Since I have been here at my new school, it has been a very fun and interesting experience.  My classes consist of Pre-Calculus with Scientific Applications, Computer Science 1, Fundamentals of Communication, Sociology, and University 101.  By far, my computer class and university class are my favorite.  The sociology professor is really neat too.  Homework has just bombarded me the past two days and I have an exam tomorrow.  I attended the WVU vs. Marshall football game last Saturday and it was a blast!  My voice was gone afterwards!  Whatever!!  I love college life though and love the college itself.  Look for more posts in the future.

Tech, Tech, Everywhere.....well sort of

A lot has happened since the last time I have updated (noting that the last time I updated was close a half a year or better). So, I guess that it is time that I started typing eh? First and foremost, I must tell about my recent technology "gulosh" (This was made up to represent the word Gumbo). I would like to focus my attention to the new Google Apps. Although I have not yet tried it, I would most certinaly recommend anyone for it. The use of having normal office applications, email, and instant messaging is something that schools and technology oriented families should have a great fun day with.
The next thing that has caught my attention over the past few weeks, or should I say week, would be Halo 3. Now, this is a HUGE thing in the world of gaming. The YouTube videos and screen shots that have admired have proven to me that this game could be a ball buster. The HUD is truly realistic in the manor that it looks as though you are looking through Master Chief's helmet. I have also enjoyed glancing at the new levels that Bungie has created just for Halo 3.
I can only put it into these words from Paul Thurrott, "Thank you, Bungie. Thank you so much."
The one amazing thing about the new Halo would have to be that it is not coming out for another couple months. This only leaves room for the utmost improvement. I can not wait to purchase the game and experiance it for myself.
Speaking of the Halo 3, Microsoft will be releasing a new Halo 3 Zune. I have played with a Zune before but do not own one, but I would love to have one over the iPod. The pink Zune will be coming out this summer too. I think that everyone should give the Zune a honest try and not try to judge it off of the iPod.
WINDOWS VISTA CAME OUT! I was so exicited for this announcment and now it is here for the public to use. Although when I used Vista RC1 there were many problems with compatability and networking, the release seemed to work much easier than the RC. Microsoft should have consolidated some of the versions though. For example, Vista Home Basic and Home Premium could have been one version. All of the others had their distentions that made them what they are.
Of course, I have to nag on Apple for a few moments. Now, you Apple fans do not get me wrong at all, I really enjoyed Apple until my iPod died after 11 months of use. This did not make me upset, but the fact that Apple did not have any reference to my serial number at all made me lose interest in their products. Their newest product that bugged me (no, not the iPhone) was the AppleTV. I really think that is overdoing it. Why not just buy a TiVo? It has been out for a few years and they have worked many of the kinks out of it. If you think of purchasing the AppleTV, look a TiVo.
I think that is enough of technology stuff. I went to Gettysburg with my scouting troop and what a hike that was. That was the longest hike I think that I have ever taken. I was reading the program and it said that we passed approximately 1,300 statues, all dedicated to the different units and states. That was simply amazing. Little Round Top and Devil's Den were by far the better parts of the tour. We stopped to eat at a place called "General Pickett's Buffet." Let me just say this, do not eat there. Ever. ever. That food was not good at all. Overall, the trip was delightful and we all had fun. I am glad that I went and I am sure the boys who did would say the same thing.
Earlier in May, I went to Huntington to help Ashley move out of her dorm at Marshall University. That was fun, this was very true during the way there. I went with her mom and grandmother and they would talk about the most random things. The conversations that lasted the whole way there. Of course Ashley was afraid of us being there late so we rushed down. We did not know that we would be 45 minutes early! Oh well, I enjoyed helping her and taking a break. After the clean up and we were done working, we took a brief tour of the campus. I wanted to see where I was staying next year so we walked to the lobby of the dorm building. Finally, we ate at my favorite place to get wings, Hooter's. We then returned home and unpacked her stuff.

The U.S. vs. John Lennon

I recently watched a movie called The U.S. Vs. John Lennon and I must say that it was simply amazing. It opened my perspective about John Lennon and the battles that he had to overcome. There were commentaries from friends of Lennon, such as the famous Yoko Ono Lennon, and other people, such as Heroldo Rivera. The basic concept of the film was to show how the Nixon administration was handling protesters, specifically John Lennon. The movie covered all the events that John Lennon used in protest, such as the "bedin." Without giving away the movie and the learning stage of the movie, I would just like to say that this was a wonderful movie and I would recommend it to anyone who is interested in The Beatles and the individual members!

UndoTV is an online media station hosted by the Chris Perillo and Leo Leporte! I became a part of this group recently and I have enjoyed watching the various podcasts and other technology oriented items on the site. This is a great and fresh way to try and put TechTV views back on the media map!

My Letter

So I am a really big fan of Leo Leporte and the TwiT crew. I enjoy listening to them and I enjoyed watching them on TV back during the TechTV era. I loved watching all of the shows on the channel. I recently earned my Boy Scouts of America's Eagle Scout ranking and requested a letter from Leo. I knew he was going on a Geek Cruise, but I did not get anything back for a long time. I checked my mail two days ago and to my surprise Leo had mailed me! Thank you Leo that really made my day!

The New O.C.

So I watched the new O.C. last night and I really like what I see. Everyone should check out this season that is on FOX. Willa Holland is Katlin and will stir up trouble of her own. Of course, Summer, Seth, Ryan, Sandy, Kirstin, and Taylor will be appearing. Another change to the season has to do with Summer becoming a tree hugger. That is ok, but not the best idea but forth by Josh Swartz. Che and Summer recently ended their little thing (for now) because of Che telling that Summer caused all of the trouble. The other little thing, which is quite wonderful, is Taylor and Ryan. Who knows what happens, but I really hope that they make it though. This is turning out to be one of the greatest plot lines in any season of The O.C. Everyone should check it out every Thursday at 9 P.M. on FOX.

The O.C. Season 4!

I am a true fan of the show The O.C. and I am terribly excited for the fourth season! I have read many articles and they have said that this season will be like the first. The first was the best season, take it or leave it. It was grand! If you love suspense and drama, this is the show. Watch and learn. I just do not look for Mischa Barton. But! Do watch crazy Rachel Bilson and Adam Brody as they start the best season, from what I have heard, yet! Autumn Reeser will be premiering as a full cast member this season. And, yes, Peter Gallagher will be here! So you do not want to miss this great and wonderful season. The O.C. will be premiering on FOX, Thursday, November 2nd at 9:00 P.M. Check it out!

The Macintosh Enthusiast

I would like to write a mini-report on the Macintosh and Enthusiests. Yes, we all know them. They prounce around talking about their Apple products and their Macintosh products and how "all-knowing" and great thier products are. And I must say, for the record, that I use Windows, Mac OS X Panther, and Linux in my life. And of course I own my own iPod and my blog has talked about iPods more than what it was suppose to. So honesty, I really know what I am talking about. Now, I was just reading a blog whenever I came across a .gif file with some text unlining it. The picture was of the old Apple logo and under the picture was this text: "Still better than Windows!" Well, in some instances I admit, this is true. They are better for the multimedia items and I mean that. They are, I truely mean that. Artistic people should really pick one up, I mean if you have the cash to dish out for it. That is one of the problems with a Mac though, you have to have the money. That is a major issue with the Macintosh. Another problem, which is major for anyone, is compatibility. What an issue. Most people use Microsoft Office 2003 or 2007 (I have used NeoOffice and OpenOffice too) and why would you purchase a Macintosh for work if you were going to buy Microsoft products. I have heard of people even purchasing the Microsoft Virtual PC for Macintosh. As in the words of Flavor Flav, "Wooooooooowwwwwww!" If you are going to do that, why purchase a Mac? You could purchase an incredible PC for the price of the Macintosh. Oh well most people want reliability. I wonder why Macs have virtually no viruses or Trojans? Maybe, just maybe, most of the population do not use Macs? No one likes to bring that up. I mean, no Mac Enthusiast likes to say that everyone uses a PC. Here are some fidgures that I found:

Maybe since more people use PCs, or should I say Windows, they have have more viruses. Have you ever tried to open a iMac before? I know that laptops are hard to open, but still the iMac is so difficult. I wanted to open my iMac and I just read it and said forget about it. Any PC is easy enough to open up, except for the really small ones and laptops.
